From emotion to tragedy: Doctor decapitates baby during labor, according to lawsuit

A Georgia doctor has been sued by a family after she allegedly used excessive force and decapitated a woman’s baby during a birth process.

According to the lawsuit, Jessica Ross and Treveon Isaiah Taylor Sr. attended the birth of their first child on July 9 at Southern Regional Medical Center, a hospital in Riverdale, about 13 miles south of Atlanta, Georgia.

During labor, the baby allegedly became stuck during delivery, so the lawsuit says the doctor, Tracey St. Julian, delayed surgery and applied “ridiculously excessive force” to the baby’s head and neck to remove it.

The lawsuit states that it was about three hours before St. Julian performed a C-section on the 20-year-old woman and by that time, according to the family’s attorney, the fetal monitor was no longer registering her heartbeat.

The C-section removed the baby’s legs and body, but the head came out vaginally, attorney Roderick Edmond, who is also a doctor, told a news conference.

The lawsuit alleges gross negligence, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Look for unspecified punitive damages.

Southern Regional told Associated Press in statements that he could not discuss the treatment of individual patients due to privacy laws, but denies the allegations against him. Calls to the St. Julian’s office were not returned and an email message was not immediately returned.
