Mexico City, Apr 10 (EFE).- The film “Fuga de Reinas”, written, produced and starring Mexican Martha Higareda, recounts the journey of four women through southern Mexico in search of themselves, explained members of the cast in interview with EFE.

From the return of Ulysses to Ithaca in Homer’s “Odyssey” to the adventures of Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote, art has given the journey a diversity of meanings; For the Mexican Alejandra Ambrosi, another of the protagonists, “Fuga de Reinas” is a journey by car into her characters.

“Unconsciously it is the search for self-love and to find themselves,” she explained.

The film, which will premiere this Friday on Netflix, narrates the adventure of four friends who, aboard an old car and accompanied by good songs, travel to Puerto Morelos (Quintana Roo, southern Mexico) fleeing their routine and focused lives. in the others.

“In the case of Marilú, she is too outward, towards her children and her family, and for the third consecutive year her husband forgets their anniversary. And then he says: ‘now it’s my turn, to see me, give me my place and travel’. Although the truth is that this is something they discover on the trip, ”Ambrosi reflected on her character.

In contrast, Famela, the character played by Paola Núñez, takes advantage of the adventure to spread her late mother’s ashes.

“And he does not realize that in his process he will also be able to let go emotionally,” Núñez stressed.

The search for its essence, however, does not have a dramatic or existential tone, but is covered by a layer of humor and self-deprecation that makes “Fuga de Reinas” a different film.

“It is important to tell it with comedy, because it is a very important vehicle for self-reflection,” said Valeria Vera, who plays Estrella.

On their journey between the jungle regions and the cenotes of the Yucatan peninsula, the four friends will meet Lola (Claudia Pineda), who will join the group of adventurers.

“Lola accompanies them and witnesses the growth they have,” said the Mexican Pineda.

HIGAREDA, PRESENT THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PROCESS

The story of “Fuga de Reinas” germinated in Higareda’s head, passed through her hands in the production process and became a reality with her in front of the cameras.

Although it is not the first time that the famous actress, known for works such as “Loving you hurts” (2002), “Kings of the street” (2008) or “Marry whoever can” (2014), writes, produces and acts in the same film, this time she felt especially comfortable.

“It is a challenge, but I felt even more sheltered. From the first film I made, which was a long time ago, to this one I already feel that the team we put together was the ‘dream team’. All the actresses I would have liked to work with were here, ”she commented, pointing to her colleagues.

The support of her production team, in which her sister was, relieved her in the moments in which she had to assume her role as an actress.

“And then, in the cut, I went back to being a producer. She was everywhere, but I feel like she was great (great),” she said.

His omnipresence, he acknowledged, sometimes led him to neglect his own character (Paty), to whom he was not giving special depth, something he did not realize until the film’s director, Jorge Macaya, intervened.

“He told me: ‘you are not realizing (…), you are giving all the other characters a lot of incredible elements and you are not giving yours anything,’” he recalled.

A STORY THAT DRINKS FROM THE PERSONAL

Despite the wave of Mexican productions that tell stories from the female perspective, Higareda assured that the point of view of “Fuga de Reinas” is not influenced by it.

“I write about the story that comes to me at that moment (…), it has to do with the life process that I am living on my journey as a writer, like the painters who paint what they are experiencing,” she said.

The idea was born from a “personal and internal” process, in which he realized that “romantic love and the man who comes and rescues you” is not really like that.

“Find self-love first, so that then you can share from there with your partner. That was the journey for me, like the journey for these four girls,” she recounted. EFE
