Another day of negotiations passed and the union conflict that stops more than 1,000 containers in the Port of Rosario remains unresolved. Yesterday there was a new meeting between the United Argentine Port Union (SUPA) and company representatives TPR (Puerto Rosario Terminal)but no agreement was reached and the forceful measures taken by the workers remain firm.

The origin of the conflict occurred more than a month ago and was the dismissal of 25 employees, of which 20 have already been reinstated. The other five were notified “with just cause”, so the union does not formally fight for their reinstatement, but for compensation to be paid to them. However, a group of affiliates of SUPA is demanding that the union secretary, Cesar Aybarthat seeks that all employees be reinstated.

In fact, one of the former workers chained himself to the port access gates to demand that his dismissal be reversed.

Apart from that incident, those who remain close to the negotiations assure that the dispute is gradually coming to an end. “Tomorrow (for today Friday) there will be a new meeting. Apparently there is an intention of the parties to reach an agreement. Also there is a lot of pressure from all sides. The Ministry of Economy of the Nation even intervened”, reported from one of the affected companies.

From the Argentine Industrial Union (UIA) They issued a statement to express their position regarding how the union conflict is affecting the development of productive activity. The agency reported that the entity has taken steps with the corresponding authorities to try to get the port back to activity.

“According to the monitoring carried out by the entity, to date the cargo of more than 1,000 containers”, they assured. Although they did not specify a number to describe the economic losses, they assured that the consequences “are in the millions.”

“The trade union conflict taking place in the Port of Rosario has paralyzed the loading and unloading of containers that are stranded out in the open, affecting the industries that need widely used inputs, perishable and even critical products contained therein, especially of the food and pharmaceutical sectors”, pointed out from UIA.

“In addition, the paralysis of the terminal, which is one of the main routes of the logistics circuit to the exterior, seriously disturbs the operation of foreign trade, generating the double damage of preventing local supply and the entry of foreign currency into the country,” they remarked. .

Likewise, the Argentine Industrial Union reported that the local companies most affected by the stoppage of activities in Rosario are cereals, food, automotive and exporters of household appliances. “They have sales commitments and deadlines agreed with foreign clients to which they cannot respond. This generates production stoppages, risks of loss of export markets and even sanctions for non-compliance with the commitments assumed”, they added.

Beyond the labor conflict between the union and the company, the UIA expressed the need to release the immobilized cargo as soon as possible, which is why it has asked the Ministry of Labor to proceed to “declare the essentiality” of said activity so as not to continue affecting value chains and restore the supply of goods throughout the country.

in dialogue with infobae, Daniel Funes de Riojapresident of the UIA, previously explained that the most serious consequences of the union conflict in the Port of Rosario occurs on production, due to shortages of inputs and even deterioration of the merchandise, especially in cases that require refrigeration. “We have learned that of the 1,000 containers that could not be withdrawn, more than 700 were identified as industrial. We are urgent because work is going to begin to be affected ”, he claimed.
