At least six people destroyed part of the facilities of the Domingo Mercante Provincial Hospital. The attackers were identified as relatives and friends of a patient who had to be transferred to undergo surgery and that transfer was delayed.

The patient had to undergo emergency surgery and a bed could not be found in another hospital, which, added to the patient’s delicate situation, complicated her possible transfer.

Given this, the relatives became violent and began to break the facilities of the admission room.

According to some relatives commented, “It was a moment of violent emotion, they waited until four days after she was hospitalized to tell us that they were not going to be able to do anything, therefore she was going to die.”

For his part, the director of the hospital, Juan Canela, commented: “This happens on a daily basis. It is a difficult situation that exists in public hospitals. To make a transfer, several conditions must be met, that there is an ambulance, that the doctor is there, that there is a room in the other hospital. It is common for be late,” he said.

“We are living in a violent society. There was much destruction of glass, computers, books. This type of aggression is experienced here,” he added.
