A few days before the official presentation of the Samsung Galaxy S23, we take stock of the various information already available to us. As you will see, the leaks have been numerous, so that the next high-end smartphones from Samsung no longer have many secrets.

We take stock of the various indiscretions that have been shared all over the web about the Galaxy S23, S23 + and S23 Ultra. From the design to the technical sheet, the camera block and the prices, we tell you everything or almost.

A very familiar design

We are not getting too far in saying that we know what the Galaxy S23 will look like. Indeed, many “leaks” have presented images of smartphones, until obtaining high definition press renderings of each model. Here’s what the Galaxy S23 and S23+ should look like:

Difficult to distinguish the two models, and for good reason, they would benefit from the same design which stands out from that of the Galaxy S22 and S22 + by the positioning of the camera modules. These are no longer placed on a block that hugs the edges of the phone, but directly on the back of the phone, vertically. A signature that the Galaxy S22 Ultra already adopted last year. Samsung is thus playing the consistency card to make its Galaxy range easily identifiable.

The Galaxy S23 Ultra stands out with its more rectangular design which takes up, almost line by line, that of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which itself took up the lines of the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The camera modules have the same positioning as last year and the aesthetic changes here are of the order of optimization. We note in passing that the S-Pen stylus would still be in the game, with a location to store it directly in the smartphone.

The last image provides an overview of the range and the four colors that will be offered: black, cream, green and lavender.

A muscular technical sheet

The characteristics of the different models have also been the subject of leaks of all kinds. The most recent present the technical sheets of the Galaxy S23 and S23+. For the S23 Ultra, this is the German site WinFuture who would have gotten the specs. We have summarized everything in the table that you will find below.

It is rumored that the Galaxy S23 would carry a somewhat special Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip which would give it an advantage over the competition. Indeed, the Korean manufacturer would have worked with Qualcomm to develop a SoC specially adapted to its high-end smartphones which would be called “Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy”.

The supposed technical characteristics of the Samsung Galaxy S23.

The processor would be clocked at 3.36 GHz, against 3.2 GHz in its “classic” version. Add to that UFS 4.0 storage chips, twice as fast as the Galaxy S22s, and 33% faster LPDDR5X RAM, and you have S23s that look like racehorses.

The three models are distinguished by their screen, their battery, the charging speed as well as the camera block. The 23 Ultra is logically the best served, but will also be the largest, heaviest and most expensive in the range.

A focus on night photography

As the Galaxy S23 teasing videos reveal, Samsung would direct part of its communication around the capabilities of its phones to take high quality night photos. A glance at the technical sheet tells us, however, that the Galaxy S23 camera modules would evolve very little compared to those of its predecessors, at least on paper.

The fundamentals of the 200 Mpix sensor

Indeed, Samsung has had time to work on its image processing algorithms, which could fully exploit the power of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Indeed, the latter brings improvements in the processing of background blur. plane, but also semantic segmentation which aims to more precisely identify objects in their environment to better highlight them.

It is also known that Qualcomm’s new platform better supports 200-megapixel camera modules. This is good since the Galaxy S23 Ultra is expected to have a camera module of this size, with a Samsung ISOCELL HP2 image sensor that we have presented to you here. The S22 Ultra is still a photo reference today, and its successor could take up the torch.

French prices revised upwards

Then comes the thorny question of prices. A recent leak shares French prices which increase sharply compared to those of the Galaxy S22. In effect, in a tweet from January 18user billbil-kun posted the prices of the Samsung Galaxy S23:

  • Samsung Galaxy S23 :
    • 8 + 128 GB: €959, compared to €859 for the S22 (+€100 / 10%)
    • 8 + 256 GB: €1019, compared to €909 for the S22 (+€110 / 11%)
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus :
    • 8 + 256 GB: €1,219, compared to €1,109 for the S22 Plus (+ €110 / 10%)
    • 8 + 512 GB: €1339 (no equivalent version)
  • Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra :
    • 8 + 256 GB: €1,419, compared to €1,359 for the S22 Ultra (+ €60 / 4%)
    • 12 + 512 GB: €1,599, compared to €1,459 for the S22 Ultra (+€140 / 10%)
    • 12 + 1 TB: €1839, compared to €1659 for the S22 Ultra (+€180 / 11%)

If this information proves to be correct, the Galaxy S23 would therefore cost between 60 and 140 euros more expensive in France, or 4 and 11%, than the Galaxy S22. To better pass this increase, Samsung is removing the 128 GB versions of the Galaxy S23 Ultra and S23 Plus. The latter would also benefit from a new version with 512 GB of storage.

A release date shortly after the presentation

The Galaxy S23 will be officially presented on February 1, during a “Galaxy Unpacked” event. The physical presentation will be held in San Francisco and will be broadcast on Samsung’s YouTube channel.

Additionally, indiscretions have been shared about pre-order offers. Samsung would offer Galaxy Buds 2 Pro worth 229 euros for the purchase of a Galaxy S23. This offer would be valid from February 2, the day after the presentation, and until February 8 inclusive. If these dates prove to be correct, the official marketing of the S23 would be set for February 9.

By launching its top-of-the-range smartphones in early February, Samsung is controlling its schedule by taking advantage of media coverage without much competition, a few weeks before the world mobile trade show, the MWC, which will be held at the end of February in Barcelona.
