You are currently viewing Game of the year? – According to Metacritic, there is a third top title alongside Baldur’s Gate 3 and Zelda – and no one knows about it

The best-rated games are not always the best-known – Six Ages 2 is probably the best proof.

Only three games made it onto Metacritic this year, one Score of 96 points to achieve – i.e. the average of all international ratings for that game. There’s Baldur’s Gate 3 – the revolutionary role-playing game that even gave us a historical rating. At number 1 is The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – an open-world sandbox that is second to none.

And in between is a game so unknown that there isn’t even a picture on Metacritic: Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out. Never heard of it? Don’t worry, you’re definitely not alone.

According to Metacritic, this little story game is one of the biggest hits of the year

Six Ages 2: Lights Going Out is the sequel to the less well-known games Six Ages: Ride Like the Wind and King of Dragon Pass. However, none of the predecessors are relevant to Six Ages 2, the game can can be played without hesitation without any prior knowledge. It doesn’t offer much gameplay, instead you have to make dialogues and decisions to progress the story. There is also a bit of turn-based strategy involved.

You must save your clan from ruin, by being on good terms with the gods and their followers. You build altars, explore the surroundings, negotiate with your neighbors and settle secular, spiritual and political disputes.

What is being praised?

This is not only well received by the testers, Six Ages 2 has an incredible value on Steam 100 percent positive reviews list…but only 67 reviews.

If you like mythology, anthropology, the Bronze Age, unconventional fantasy settings, resource management, good writing and interesting decisions, or even just any of the above, then you should play the gamesaid the Steam user Kaz.

The user score on Metacritic looks completely different: The seven ratings only manage an average of 4.1 out of 10 points, but none of the disappointed players wrote a text.

Who, on the other hand, left a little more behind is the editor Shaun Musgrave from toucharcade.com. With one of the four critic reviews, it has a significant influence on the strong average rating and awards a full 100 points:

Although newbies have to climb a bit over a wall to find the treasure behind it, this wall is now easier to overcome than ever before. A real winner and I’ll be playing it for as long as it takes for the next installment to come out.

Have you ever heard of Six Ages 2 or one of its predecessors or does the game come out of nowhere for you? Will you take a look at a metascore like this or is the number hardly worth anything to you with so few reviews? What are your top games of the year so far?
