Byzantium will be a playable faction in Age of Empires 4 in the Rise of the Sultans add-on.
There is new information about the first paid expansion for Age of Empires 4! Well, actually only one, but it’s no less exciting. The Byzantine Empire will join the political groups in The Rise of the Sultans
connect.

The image was the reward for a small community event in which fans were supposed to complete challenges in the forum. Among other things, the request to crack a brilliant AoE4 joke. The Winner joke Of course we don’t want to withhold from you: An Elite Royal Knight walks into a bar… there is no counter.
The Fans react with mixed feelings. Some are excited about the expansion, including user Josh1Axel:
The Byzantines are one of my favorite races in AoE 2. I have high expectations.
But there are also critical opinions regarding the historical representation. Fyrapan90 fears, for example, that the citizens will only speak Latin, as in Age of Empires 2:
I should be more excited, but all I can think about is how much they’re going to fail if they make a 100 percent Latin-speaking civilization with no reference to anything Greek.
