If you know the card game “Wizard”, it is now in several versions* are also familiar with the symbols that adorn the seven dice: blue stands for humans, red for dwarves, yellow for giants and green for elves. There is also a fool and a wizard.

How does the “Wizard Dice Game” play?

The task of Wizard Dice Game is to accurately predict the outcome of the dice. The starting player first assumes the role of seer. On the enclosed sheet of paper, he enters for everyone to see how many of a selected color he will throw by circling the appropriate spot. Then the players follow one after the other with their predictions, which they write down.

When everyone has made a prediction, the starting player determines the color that the “Wizard” symbol should count as and rolls one die. Everyone checks whether their prediction is fulfilled. If so, they can opt out. The starting player may roll any number of dice twice more. Then it has to be evaluated. If a prediction is fulfilled, an X is placed in the circle. Differences to the prediction are counted as minus points. To avoid negative points, there is the possibility of a fool scoring if at least one fool symbol was rolled. This round counts as zero points.
The game ends when the first player has written nine X’s.

If the basic game is no longer exciting enough for the practiced game, the ten magic cards can add more variety and increase the unpredictability of the game. Here one is taken from the stack and read out before the start of the round. For example, the predictions count twice, i.e. if they are fulfilled, there are two Xs, if there are differences, they are multiplied by two.

Information and conclusion: Can’t hold a candle to the big card brother

The dice variant of the classic trick-taking game has some positive aspects. It can also be played with two people. The layout and symbols are based on the original version, and the layout on the pad is easy to see. The rules are also easy to remember and learn quickly, the game is played quickly.

The reason why the dice game in our group did not trigger a great storm of enthusiasm either among Wizard fans or among Wizard newcomers is conceivable low impact of the player. With the card wizard, everyone knows what they have in hand, makes a trick prediction based on this and tries to fulfill it. The dice game suffers from the fact that the prediction mechanism was adopted – but works much worse here. Without a starting position, the assessment of how many dice of a color will fall is all too arbitrary. It doesn’t help much if the starting player can determine that wizards take on a certain color.

“Wizard” is not unplayable for rolling the dice, but it just barely misses the mark of “pure gambling”. If you want to see it positively, it’s good as a nice game for in between without much depth, when you don’t want to think too much.
