There’s something to be amazed about, straight away, it’s off to the land of great stories without any detours or stops – while mum or dad can drink a coffee and chat next door. “As a parent, you often don’t get to enjoy it at all,” says mother of two Christina Sprinke in “Hier ist nicht da” (Hind) on Bochumer Straße, where the first parent-child meeting took place.

Gelsenkirchen: Why the parents and their children liked it so much in Hind

Around 50 people came to try out the new offer in the south quarter. “It went as we had hoped, it was very nice and relaxed,” says Sarah Rissel from Hind. Relaxed is the right keyword, because that’s exactly what it should be about: that the parents can sit together in peace while the little ones they have brought with them are entertained next door.

The Gelsenkirchen actress Alma Gildenast and the storyteller from Consol, André Wülfing, came especially for this. So people who are familiar with storytelling and especially with children. The little ones listen intently while sitting in front of the two and embark on a journey “From the stars in the sky to the fish in the sea” with the picture-book heroine Miu Lan.

Mareen de Visser lives right around the corner, her daughter Emma is right in the middle of everything. “You get in touch faster with children,” the 37-year-old is convinced. Tenia Asad came to the Hind with her, she also lives nearby and is happy about the new offer. “The children can play together here, it’s much more relaxed here, a nice change of scenery,” says the 33-year-old, while her daughter Helia has long since discovered the first sweets – and is inspired by the stories in the next room.

The campaign is part of the “Space for Many(s)” project, which is being funded with the help of the NRW-wide “Creative.Quarters Ruhr” program. “We would like to implement the parent-child meeting regularly,” says Sarah Rissel after the first successful test run. However: There is currently no fixed date for a repetition.
