Members of the Puerto Rico Section managed to seize cigarettes of foreign origin in violation of Law 22,415, that is, merchandise that entered the country without the customs guarantee. According to the first investigations, the value of the kidnapped merchandise amounts to just over one and a half million pesos.

The seizure was carried out at night on February 17, when the uniformed officers were conducting a patrol near the town of Puerto Rico, when they observed a brand vehicle traveling at high speed in the direction of the National Highway. No. 12. The troops began a controlled follow-up, so the driver of the vehicle in question, realizing this, increased speed by performing evasive maneuvers.

As a result, the driver ended up entering a dirt road, at which time the officers managed to persuade him to stop the vehicle. “Next, the uniformed officers proceeded to identify the occupants of the vehicle, who turned out to be two citizens of Argentine nationality,” according to reports from the security force.

In a detailed review of the footage, the troops discovered ten boxes of cigarettes of foreign origin and origin, without the corresponding customs guarantee. Likewise, the boxes contained a total of 5,000 packages, which according to the customs clearance (AFIP-DGE) Deleg Posadas, corresponded to an appraisal of $1,521,418.23.

In this context, the Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Court of the City of Oberá intervened, who ordered the execution of proceedings, the seizure of the merchandise and the filming, leaving the citizens involved subject to the cause.
