George Clooney endorses Kamala Harris' candidacy

WASHINGTON.- The actor George Clooneyone of the first high-profile Democratic activists to urge Joe Biden to drop out of the re-election race, announced today – July 23 – his endorsement of the vice president Kamala Harris as candidate.

“President Biden has shown what true leadership looks like. He is saving democracy once again. We are so excited to do everything we can to support Vice President Harris in her historic quest for the Presidency of the United States in the November election,” Clooney said in a statement to the network. Clooney, a top fundraiser for Democratic candidates and a longtime Biden booster, broke ranks two weeks ago by openly calling on the 81-year-old president to make way for a younger candidate to give the party a better chance of beating Republican tycoon Donald Trump on Nov. 5.

“I love Joe Biden. I consider him a friend and I believe in him… but the only battle he can’t win is the battle against time,” Clooney surprisingly wrote for the The New York Timesjustifying his demand.

“With Biden at the head of the ticket, the Democrats will not win in November, they will lose control of the Senate and will not obtain a majority in the House of Representatives,” explained the Oscar-winning actor.

After days of mounting pressure, Biden abruptly announced on July 21 that he was dropping out of the race and endorsing his vice president. Harris quickly won overwhelming support from party leaders and a huge amount of donations from voters.
