Everyone at the Fulham club is deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our greatest players – and a gentleman – George Cohen,” the London club wrote on its website.
The defender (37 appearances with the Three Lions) played all the matches of the epic of the English team that won its only world title at home.

Cohen spent his entire career at Fulham, making 459 appearances for the Cottagers between 1956 and 1969, before a knee injury ended his career at the age of 29. A statue of him was placed in front of Craven Cottage Stadium in 2016.

After Cohen’s death, only Geoff Hurst, 81, who scored three goals in the 1966 final, and Bobby Charlton, 85, remain alive of the starting eleven who won the World Cup.
