The TV world got a real shock last fall when it was announced that Henry Cavill would be leaving his role as Geralt of Rivia after the third season of the Netflix series The Witcher. Although Cavill has not said this outright, many believe that his main reason for the decision to leave the series is dissatisfaction with the show’s treatment of the source material.

In a new video, Geralt’s voice actor from The Witcher games, Doug Cockle, has spoken out about Cavill’s departure. He says he “totally understands” Cavill’s reasoning regarding the omission of book material.

“The writers on the Netflix series have chosen for whatever reason to deviate quite severely from the books and the games. Whether that’s good or not is down to what you like. I personally don’t understand the choice. I think that’s why Henry’s leaving . Liam, more power to him. I do not envy him. Big shoes to fill.”

Whether Henry Cavill left The Witcher due to dissatisfaction with the story or not, fans have also been very unhappy with how The Witcher has been portrayed by Netflix. Given that Cavill left after the third season, we suspect they won’t improve on the popularity – but will be happy to be proven wrong when it premieres in 2023.
