An investigation for intentional homicide was opened after the death of two 3-month-old twin girls on Monday in Lamarque, near Paullac in the Médoc. Their mother is in custody.

After the suspicious death Monday in Gironde of two 3-month-old twin sisters, an investigation was opened for intentional homicide, a source close to the investigation told BFMTV. The mother of the babies was indicted on Friday for intentional homicide of minors aged 15.

On Monday, the emergency services received a call from a mother whose babies were unconscious. When they arrive on site in Lamarque, a small town located about thirty kilometers north of Bordeaux, they try to practice first aid, but one of the little girls dies. The second, transferred to the hospital, died a few hours later.

Autopsy suggests death by asphyxiation

The autopsy of the little girls, performed on Wednesday, indicates, pending further examinations, that they would have died of asphyxiation. The 35-year-old mother of the twins was unknown to the police and justice services, according to information from BFMTV.

She is married, had no other children and had not started separation proceedings with the father of the twins. The investigators “highlighted a psychological fragility of the young woman who had received treatment for bipolarity”. She had also been hospitalized with her two daughters following her delivery for this reason.

The investigation was entrusted by the Bordeaux prosecutor’s office to the gendarmerie. Judicial information should soon be opened with the referral of the mother of the children.
