The sequel will once again be directed by Ridley Scott who has already started casting and may have found the lead. According to the latest rumors, in fact, the very young Paul Mescal is in the running for the role of Lucio Veroson of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix).

Mascal impressed everyone with his performance on the Hulu series Normal People, winning a BAFTA award and garnering an Emmy nomination.
