Mexico City.- To prevent crimes against cultural heritage, elements of the National Guard (GN) reinforced security in archaeological zones this holiday season at the end of the year.

“With the operational deployment of members of the National Guard in the archaeological sites, the aim is to guarantee security and permanent surveillance to prevent theft and damage, as well as the alteration or destruction of cultural heritage,” the agency said.

He explained that the archaeological zones where the presence of the national guards was reinforced are Calakmul, in Campeche; Palenque and Bonampak, in Chiapas, and Teotihuacán, in the State of Mexico.

Surveillance was also increased in the archaeological zone of Monte Albán, in Oaxaca; Tehuacan, in Puebla; Tulum and Coba, in Quintana Roo; Tajín, in Veracruz, and Chichen Itzá, in Yucatán.

The state coordinations and the GN units carry out actions such as tours of the circuits of the archaeological zones, traffic control and application of regulations in terms of roads, surveillance in parking areas and support for the protection areas of the archaeological zones. .

The actions are carried out in coordination with authorities of the three orders of Government, and the general directorates of Intelligence, Investigation and Science of the GN participate.
