The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will soon be released with content that is creating controversy and forcing the studio to explain this decision to make a game option payable.

The upcoming release of a new game on Gollum should quench the thirst of JRR Tolkien fans. But since the revelation of the various editions, some have grimaced and are not ready to empty their wallets to be fully immersed in the universe.

The Precious Edition of The Lord of the Rings Gollum controversy

In addition to the Standard Edition of Lord of the Rings Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment presented a Precious Edition with several bonuses. An edition that will be unavailable commercially. This is a purely dematerialized version, with various digital content to be retrieved online. The game will be well distributed in physics on consoles, but without any other particular advantage, except for a pack of 6 emotes for the hero.

In the list of digital bonuses of the Precious Edition of The Lords of the Rings Gollum, there is one that is much more talked about than the others. Indeed, by paying more, you can play the entire title in Sindarin, the Elvish language. Immersive voiceovers that have been professionally made, as announced by the development studio. Those content with the normal edition will be able to hear characters speaking in Sindarin from time to time, but that’s it. It will therefore be impossible to enjoy ALL the dialogues in the Elvish language. A gift for the most hardcore fans.

Contents of The Lords of the Rings: Gollum Precious Edition

  • A code to download the game
  • Exclusive development artwork with over 100 original sketches
  • A compendium of history to discover its secrets
  • The soundtrack with 17 titles played by an orchestra
  • Additional dubbings to play in VO Sindarin, the elvish language. A sound track produced by professionals specialized in the field
  • 6 emotes

Daedalic Entertainment’s response to detractors

This paid DLC of additional Sindarin voices – which should be available for purchase separately – did not make all the players happy. Daedalic Entertainment then wanted to defuse the situation by giving details of this choice. The studio highlighted the fact that the dubbings were made by professionals, and that they were intended for Tolkien enthusiasts.

Elves in the game will occasionally speak in their own language, Sindarin. VO Sindarin expansion adds extra lines of dialogue to some background characters. By crossing the Forest of Great’Fear or other places of Middle-earth, Gollum will be able to listen to different conversations between the Elves. These dialogues are grafted to the atmosphere and the construction of the world. Daedalic went the extra mile by hiring voice actors who have been trained in Sindarin by our lore experts. This is a DLC for true Tolkien enthusiasts who want to immerse themselves even further in the world of Middle-earth.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam, Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store) from May 25, 2023.
