By losing their smartphone, having their phone stolen or simply changing their phone, Google Authenticator users were prevented from regaining access to several accounts that they had set up two-factor authentication (2FA) using the app. For this reason, many even preferred to use Microsoft Authenticator, which performs the same function and has the option of backing up data, so that it is possible to access them on different devices. However, luckily, Google answered the prayers of thousands of users and decided to add the much-requested feature in the latest Google Authenticator update.

What does Google Authenticator do?

The main highlight of Google Authenticator is the use of the application as a way to use two-factor authentication (2FA) using one-time-use codes (OTP). After a few seconds, the password generated by the app expires and keeps changing, making it a more secure solution compared to accessing by sending a code via SMS message on your cell phone. In addition, it is also capable of serving as a password manager, autofilling the username and password on websites.
