Google has released version 109 of Chrome. Specifically, there is Chrome 109.0.5414.74 for Linux, 109.0.5414.74/.75 for Windows and 109.0.5414.87 for macOS. With the release, Google fixes numerous vulnerabilities. A total of 17 vulnerabilities were reported that could be closed, 2 of which have the severity “High”. It’s certainly a release worth noting because it’s supposed to be the last version of the browser to support Windows 7 and 8.1. Microsoft itself recently discontinued support for these two operating systems or delivered the last update.

Soon there will also be a different approach to distribution. Starting with Chrome 110, the original release date for the stable version will be a week earlier. This early stable release will be released to a small percentage of users, while the majority of users will receive the release a week later on the normal scheduled date; this will also be the date when the new version will be available on the Chrome downloads page.
By releasing the stable release early to a small percentage of users, Google has the opportunity to review the release before releasing it to all users. If a noticeable problem is discovered, it can be fixed as long as the impact is relatively small. Chrome 110 is expected to be final on February 7th, the early stable will be distributed from February 1st and the beta will start on January 12th. In the case of publicly known security gaps that are already being exploited, the final version will probably be distributed to users more quickly.
