Google has released a new application with features that make it easier to use Android phones. “Switch Access” or “Access with Switch”, part of the accessibility section integrated into the operating system itself, is now also available in its official app store, enabling faster and more complete updates for users.

The software allows users interact with their devices using physical switches, connected keyboards or even the front camera of the device, dispensing with touches on its screen. “It is possible to select items, scroll, type and much more”, as explained in the description of the title in the Play Store.

Users can have broader control through a top menu that remains fixed at the top of the cell phone or tablet screen that allows viewing notifications, adjusting the volume, accessing recent applications, among other commands.

Interfaces that can control the device include areas of the device itself — such as the volume and camera buttons — and accessories such as keyboards and switches that can be connected to Android via USB-C or Bluetooth. Amazon recently enabled similar functions on its “Fire” line tablets.

The app will also allow for input with facial gestures — such as gaze directing, smiling, raising eyebrows, etc. — to perform tasks on the device. In addition, it is possible to customize the sensitivity and duration of each gesture.

“Switch Access” can be accessed from the Android accessibility settings. The resource will be present in the “Installed applications” section and may have a shortcut added to the system’s home screen to facilitate its access. When routine updates are available, you can download them through the Play Store.
