You are currently viewing Google Maps: Bridge collapses, killing man

Google has to deal with a dramatic lawsuit in the USA.

The company is being sued by a family because father and husband Phillip Paxson died in an unfortunate car accident. The survivors blame Google Maps for this.

Bridge collapsed on rainy night

According to the lawsuit, the app’s navigation system directed the man to an unstable bridge on September 30, 2022, which collapsed and took him down. He was on his way to his nine-year-old daughter’s birthday party.

According to the family, the man was driving through a dark and rainy night and relied on Google Maps GPS. Therefore, the company or its app is now held responsible for the user’s death.

Dramatic words from the wife

Alicia Paxson, Phillip Paxson’s wife, told the Associated Press:

Our girls ask me how and why their father died and I am at a loss for words because even as an adult I still cannot understand how those responsible for the GPS routes and the bridge could have so little regard for human life.

The now closed bridge is now marked as damaged or impassable on Apple Maps. The path that probably led Paxson to his death still exists on Google Maps, like Appleinsider noted.
