Televisions with the Google TV system will begin to be available with remote controls for charging by light soon. TW Eletronics, one of the companies responsible for items of this type, showed how their layout should be as of this year.

In general, the look of the controls is very similar to those offered today. However, there is a photovoltaic panel in the bottom section — which increases the size of the device considerably.

In practice, this means that the controls will have “infinite battery”, as they are powered by converting light energy into electricity – the solution even works with indoor lamps, in addition, of course, to sunlight.

As much as it is a novelty in Google TVs, the technology is already available in products from other brands, such as Samsung. In the case of the Korean company, the panel is on the back of the controller.

Some models made available by Samsung still have charging through radio waves, such as Wi-Fi networks. In this way, it is possible to generate charge even during the night, and in completely dark environments.

In addition, rumors point out that Amazon would be designing similar technology for the controls of the Fire TV Stick. The novelty may appear in dongles revealed this year, but there is still no official confirmation so far.

It’s also unclear when Google’s new controls will hit Google TVs. After all, brands are free to use the standard or not — the G10 model, for example, appeared on several devices, while the G20 went almost unnoticed.

In any case, the use of controls with rechargeable batteries by light tends to increase over the next few years, as they represent a more practical option compared to models with AA/AAA batteries — and more ecologically correct.
