A man from Taiwan was out airing his parrots when things went terribly wrong.

Now he has been sentenced to two months in prison and must pay a fine of just over NOK 900,000, according to Taiwan’s news agency Taiwan Focus.

Parrot scared doctor

During the aerial tour, the man with the parrots passed by an area where a doctor was jogging.

One of the parrots landed on the doctor’s back and startled him by flapping its wings repeatedly.

The incident caused the doctor to fall, dislocating his hip and breaking his pelvis.

Another who had a close encounter with a parrot was cycling star Michele Scarponi. See what happened in the video below:

The doctor was hospitalized for one week because of the injuries he sustained, and was unable to work for six months. It took him six months to get back on his feet, and the doctor had to have special treatment for another three months.

The doctor works as a plastic surgeon and could not work as the working day consists of standing for several hours while he operates.

Want to appeal

In court, it emerged that the doctor chose to sue the parrot’s owner for negligent damage, and asked for compensation for his financial loss.

– He can walk again now, but if he stands for long periods he becomes numb, said the doctor’s lawyer.

A representative from the Tainan District Court’s administrative department has stated that the case is rare and that they have not seen a similar civil trial in recent years, according to BBC.

The court concluded that the doctor’s fall was caused by the parrot owner’s negligence.

The parrot is 40 centimeters tall and has a wingspan of 60 centimeters, which means that the court defines it as a large animal. The court believes the owner should have taken action to avoid the situation.

The owner received a prison sentence for “causing accidental damage”.

The parrot owner has stated that he respects the court’s decision, but wants to appeal. He believes that the parrots are not aggressive, and claims that the compensation claim of over NOK 900,000 is too high.

It is unclear what will happen to the parrot in the future.
