It was a messy New Year’s Eve in Karlshamn last year. A lot of people were staying at Stortorget and fireworks were fired at both police and vehicles. One person was arrested for violence against an officer and blue light sabotage, after a police officer was hit in the stomach by a rocket.

It’s total Fireworks prohibitedr on Stortorget in Karlshamn and this year the police will monitor certain places with cameras drone.

– Drone pilots are assigned and that will make it easier if something happens. We can also intervene before anything happens. If crowds are formed, for example. It will be used where we believe it is needed, says Andreas Jonsson.

“Where the need arises”

The police have brought in extra resources that only work against New Year-related events.

– The entire police area is monitored, the extra resource can work where there is a need, Jonsson continues.

The hope is that Blekinge’s various celebrations will be kept calm. The police have not yet received any indication that there will be trouble in any particular location.

– It is mental preparation that applies to those who work, situations arise that you might not have on a daily basis, with rocket firings.
