A dozen individuals violently attacked Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, the great-nephew of Brigitte Macron, on Monday evening after the television interview with the head of state. Of the eight people arrested and held in custody, four people will be tried. The trial of three of them was postponed until early June.

Three men, suspected of having assaulted Jean-Baptiste Trogneux, grand-nephew of Brigitte Macron, in Amiens on Monday evening, were placed in pre-trial detention on Wednesday after the dismissal, at the request of their defense, of the hearing where they were to be judged in immediate appearance.

The trial of these three men, aged 20 to 34, and tried in particular for violence in meetings was postponed to June 5 at 2 p.m. A 16-year-old girl, also prosecuted in this case, must be presented to a juvenile judge. The prosecutor Jean-Philippe Vicentini obtained their placement in pre-trial detention, because, according to the president of the court, “the risk of repetition of the facts”.

“Send a message of firmness”

During this immediate appearance, the public prosecutor had requested a warrant of deposit (a decision to maintain pre-trial detention) against the three men on trial. He expressed his desire to “send a message of firmness”, evoking a “case of shame”.

The prosecutor recalled that the victim had been sentenced to 4 days of ITT (total incapacity for work) due to his injuries, commenting: “it is particularly traumatic”. He finally lamented that a man had been “beaten up because of the name he bears”.

“In this department (Somme), the law will apply everywhere and for everyone,” he added. “We must not wait to have a death in this country for reason to prevail”.

“We must stop the ball of hypocrites,” he said. “Those who in the morning swear that they are against violence but who for weeks, by ambiguous words, silences, light fuses and diffuse bombardments in unstructured or violent individuals”.
