Grard Depardieu is an embarrassment to France, says the Minister of Culture

PARS.- The behavior of the French cinema superstar Grard Depardieu “Avergence” a Francesaid this Friday the French Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul-Malak, in the midst of controversy over some sexist comments by the actor, who is also accused of rape.

During a trip to North Korea In 2018, Depardieu made inappropriate comments as well as gestures and throat noises that imitated sexual acts while talking to women, according to images broadcast on December 7 by the France 2 network.

“Women love riding horses. Their clits rub against the saddle (…) They really enjoy it,” says Depardieu during a visit to a riding center, in which he makes obscene comments about a girl of about 10 years old.

The minister denounced some “absolutely scandalous comments” and “an attitude that claims to have a joking and provocative tone, but which in reality is quite disrespectful and undignified, and which embarrasses France.”

“It made me sick,” added Abdul-Malak during a visit to Moissac (south), specifying that it is not his place to “give slogans” since there is “total freedom of creation.” But “it doesn’t seem to me that he has many (job) proposals at the moment,” he added.

In December 2020, justice charged the 74-year-old actor with rape and sexual assault against actress Charlotte Arnould, who reported two rapes at the actor’s Parisian home in August 2018.

Since then, a dozen women have accused him of sexual violence in the press, including actress Hélène Darras. The justice system is investigating his complaint filed on September 10 for facts that are in principle prescribed.

Depardieu, who denies the accusations, is a monument of French cinema like Alain Delon or Brigitte Bardot, with a prolific career of more than 200 films, also plagued by excesses and scandals.
