The actress, who died in 2016, achieved cult status with her role as Princess Leia. Now Fisher has been honored with a Hollywood star – and on a very special day.

Los Angeles – “Star Wars” icon Carrie Fisher has posthumously received a star on the famous “Walk of Fame” in Hollywood. Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, accepted the honors Thursday alongside “Star Wars” robots C-3PO and R2-D2 in Los Angeles. Carrie Fisher rose to fame as Princess Leia in the Star Wars movies.

The star is just a few feet from the plaque of Mark Hamill, who played Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker in Star Wars. Fisher’s mother Debbie Reynolds’ (‘Gold Digger Molly’, ‘Singin’ in the Rain’) star is across the street, the organizers previously announced.

American Fisher died on December 27, 2016 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles a few days earlier. Her mother died just a day after her at the age of 84.

Thursday’s star ceremony fell on Star Wars Day, which is traditionally celebrated on May 4th. The English pronunciation of the date (“May the Fourth”) is reminiscent of the famous greeting “May the Force be with You” (in German: “May the Force be with you”) from the Star Warrior saga. dpa
