David Kebekus wants to put a smile on the viewer’s face with his second solo program. The comedian gets very personal.

On the second day of Christmas it was time again: Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf once again invited various celebrities to the “Duel around the World” on Pro7 to face dangerous tasks in the most diverse areas. David Kebekus is someone who has been involved in the not-so-ordinary game show for years with creative and ludicrous ideas.

Born in Bergisch Gladbach, he has been working as an author for various TV formats, as a director and comedian since 2005 – he has particularly fond memories of his work on “The Duel Around the World”. “It was the easiest TV job I’ve ever had and also my favorite. My brief was to find work anywhere in the world. No matter what the implementation costs. That way I could think of the most absurd things,” the 38-year-old recalls in an interview.

For David Kebekus it was off to the catacombs of Paris

However, it did not stop with the mere conception and writing down: “Once I went to Paris to do research myself, to the catacombs. Among other things, there is a road network for prisoner transports, where you have to get on through a manhole cover. I went there with a guide and a Go-Pro and weaved through holes that many others could not have climbed in the first place. So I did something that they couldn’t do on the show in the end,” reveals Kebekus, not without pride.

The full-blooded humorist now faces much less complex journeys. With his second solo program “Überragend” he will be back on German stages from mid-January, the tour will run until December. In times of crisis, Kebekus wants to entertain with a positive program: “I will also present more difficult topics, but in a way that is also fun. If you experience something that is not so positive privately, you can usually draw something positive from it for the stage, approach it with humor.”

The comedian, who lives in Cologne, promises a “stand-up based on the American model” for the performances. He explains himself what that means: “The term describes a stand-up in which not just a text is said. Without interchangeable jokes designed so that just about anyone could tell them. Compared to many Germans, comedians in America and England are very personal on stage. On such an evening, as a spectator, you really get to know the artist, where he comes from, what he is like, how he thinks.”

Stories about siblings

However, fans do not have to hope for a guest performance by the famous sister. As a rule, Carolin and David strictly separate their stage skills from each other, only doing things together in public in isolated cases. No wonder that the tickets for just such a rare evening in front of an audience are already sold out. On 30.3. the siblings will be presenting a live episode of their podcast “What Why How Was” in Cologne’s E-Werk, in which the duo tells stories from almost four decades together on the Audible platform at irregular intervals.

David Kebekus will also give at least a few insights into family life solo. After all, “when you first say, ‘Yes, I’m Carolin’s brother’, a whole new world of topics automatically opens up,” he knows. He doesn’t want to let this chance to talk about it go unused – to give the audience an “outstanding” evening.
