Three generations of consoles and almost ten years of activity, this is the performance currently established by Grand Theft Auto V, always supported with great attention by Rockstar Games. If many players are still waiting and still waiting for GTA VI, the fifth opus still has it in store and the recent addition of ray tracing on Xbox Series X and PS5 is proof of this.

A stunning result in loyalty mode

Do you have any doubts about this? The video posted on Digital Foundry’s YouTube channel will clear up some of your concerns. Our experts in the field have tested this technology to display better sharpness in reflections and reflective surfaces through several modes present in the game, starting with the “performance” mode.

Certainly, the latter is the one that will have given the least satisfaction. Digital Foundry indeed notes that the work done on the reflective surfaces does not offer the result that one could hope for. If this little quack can disappoint, Ray Tracing on the other hand keeps all its promises in the “loyalty” mode. The latest update thus offers a rather impressive attention to detail. Digital Foundry explains:

Ceramic, plastic, frosted glass, semi-gloss paint, and puddles all scatter light realistically and look much better integrated into the open world of GTA 5.

In addition, the fidelity mode allows you to create streets full of rain with magnificent reflections. This is perhaps the most obvious improvement over other graphics modes.”

This analysis also allowed them to see that Rockstar had slightly lowered the resolution in this mode, thereby allowing for smoother frame rates and it is certain that other improvements are still to be discovered.

Despite the fact that ray tracing is unavailable on Xbox Series S, owners of an Xbox Series X or a PS5 will not miss a new ride in GTA V.
