Gustavo Dudamel explains the reason why he left the Paris opera

PARS.- Director of orchestra Venezuelan Gustavo Dudamel He claims that he had to leave his position as musical manager of the paris pear a year ago because he had no other option, in an interview published this Thursday by Le Monde.

In his first interview about the causes of his sudden departure from office, Dudamel says that: “there came a point where I did not have material time to digest everything that was happening on a professional and personal level.”

“I wasn’t happy, and deep down I think that was the essential reason,” he added.

His multiple international commitments, and his desire to spend more time with his family, are cited by the famed conductor, 43, currently in charge of the New York Philharmonic.

Disagreements

But Dudamel acknowledges that there were disagreements within the Paris opera orchestra, with which he planned to tour in April 2023.

The labor disagreements between the management and the members of the orchestra on that tour were: “perhaps the straw that broke the camel’s back,” he adds.

“There are many people, with good intentions” in the Paris opera house, a huge house, he explained.

“I personally had the feeling that I would not be able to realize my artistic ambitions,” he explained.

Despite the closure of that artistic stage, Dudamel praised the artistic quality of the Parisian project. “I feel great love, admiration for an (…) extraordinary institution,” he says.

Dudamel will star with the New York Philharmonic in two concerts at the Paris Philharmonic on May 30 and 31.
