.01 – THE GOAL THAT SCREAMED THE MOST
The one from Eric Ramírez on the hour to Estudiantes to tie the classic on March 20 1 to 1. El Lobo arrived beaten for the League Cup derby, with what until then had been a weak campaign. Rodrigo Rey had a great year in the tripero goal. He arrived at the club at the beginning of 2021, with Mariano Messera and Leandro Martini in technical management, and quickly took over the goal. With Néstor Gorosito as DT, he was a key piece in the last season to get the ticket to the Copa Sudamericana. His departure to Independiente leaves a void that is difficult to fill. .03 – HIT HIM, BENJA!
Gimnasia beat Independiente 3-1 at the Juan Carmelo Zerillo and placed itself as the only pointer in the Professional League Tournament. With the game 0-1 and with the team in doubt in the game, Benjamín Domínguez nailed a great volley goal and the Forest exploded in celebration. It was a great goal from “Nene” coming off a corner kick from the right executed by the Uruguayan Brahian Alemán. In the left corner of the area, Benja was waiting for the rebound and when the ball arrived, I didn’t hesitate. It was a missile that stuck into the left pipe of goalkeeper Sebastián Sosa, who didn’t even see it. “I wanted to score a goal at El Bosque, it’s what I always dreamed of,” said the youth player after the victory. It was another of the great celebrations of the year at El Bosque and the youth team’s first goal in the first division.
.04 – TARRAGOL’S INJURY STOPPED HIM A GREAT YEAR
Cristian Tarragona had an impact in the first part of the season, with 11 goals in 18 games. In the League Cup he had a magnificent performance, scoring eight goals, the same amount as Julián Alvarez. His ligament injury on the Platense field caused a tremendous loss to Pipo’s team, who lost an offensive card that perfectly complemented Eric Ramírez and the play from the wings of Ramón Sosa and the Colombian Johan Carbonero. With goals and participation in the game circuits, Tarragona dazzled in Gymnastics. The fans, excited, expect a wink for his continuity.
.05 – DISAPPOINTMENTS OF THE YEAR
In duplicate. The defeat in Chaco against the Patronato substitutes meant a hard blow because the Argentine Cup was exciting, but Lobo was fighting for the championship, so the impact was cushioned. However, the end of the road ended with the Paraná team champion, which is why the 2-1 loss marked a disappointment that was strengthened weeks later. Later, the team’s performance declined and the fight for the title became the fight to maintain the place in the qualification for the Copa Libertadores The defeat on the last date against an alternative Talleres took away Lobo’s chance to return to the Libertadores after 15 years. It was perhaps the great sporting coup of the year for a Gymnastics team that after many years allowed itself to think a little bigger.
.06 – LOLO REGUEIRO, PAIN IN A NIGHTMARE
César Gustavo Regueiro was 57 years old. They called him “Lolo” and he was a gymnastics fan. Municipal employee, former player of clubs in the League and Villa San Carlos, on Thursday, October 6, he went to support Lobo against Boca but was unable to do so. Nine minutes after the start, the match against Boca was suspended due to a huge police repression with gases and rubber bullets. Accusations were exchanged, between overselling, control responsibilities and failures in the security operation. Minister Berni put on his show in the Forest, Aprevide distributed blame but there are no answers. Lolo died and the legal case is still trying to determine the responsibilities. After almost three months, the complaints persist and the Forest does not forget that someone is missing from the family. It is a wound that does not close for all Gymnastics.
.07 – THE REFEREEING HORROR
On August 28, in Junín, Gimnasia tied 0-0 with Sarmiento. On the hour Brahian Alemán sent a cross from the left and Franco Soldano arrived to define the goal, but Federico Andueza brought him down in the six-yard box. However, the play continued, the referee Pablo Echavarría did not consider that this play had been a penalty, so he did not stop the actions. Neither did they call him from the VAR, in charge of Lucas Novelli and Diego Verlotta, to review what happened. The protest on the field grew when the players and Pipo saw the images in the changing rooms, they couldn’t believe it: it was a huge penalty. In a weak gymnastics game, which was still fighting for the top places in the table, that chance of keeping the three points in a goat match was water in the desert.
.08 – PIPO RETURNED THE ILLUSION TO THE TRIPERO
Hand in hand with Pipo, Gimnasia had such a good year that qualifying for the Copa Sudamericana, the initial objective, ended up being a consolation prize. He fought for the championship despite the fact that he ended up far away due to the final downturn and only on the last date he was left out of the Libertadores. Gorosito managed, mainly, to change the head of all Gymnastics after years of mediocre campaigns with the honorable exception of the 2018 Argentina Cup led by Pedro Troglio. The DT managed to convince his players first and then the fans. The end of the year had a bitter taste because what had been done warranted a qualification to the most important Cup on the continent. After six years, Gymnastics will return to the international arena in 2023, to the great merit of the coach, who will leave his position the day after tomorrow.
.09 – THE BEST MATCH
The 3-1 defeat of Racing in the Forest on June 20 was the best tripero performance throughout 2022, due to the entity of the rival and because the Gorosito team overwhelmed him in the last half hour of the game. After a first half tied 1-1, with goals from Eric Ramírez and Enzo Copetti, Tripero’s second half left the “long” game behind and with precautions to give way to individual dynamics and imbalance. Two goals from Brahian Alemán (a penalty and a beautiful free kick) gave definitive figures to the result, which could have been higher but the VAR annulled a goal by Ramírez himself. Special mention for the 6 to 0 Patronato in Paraná.
.10 – AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE
The change of government in Gymnastics finished making visible the serious economic situation that the institution is going through. Inhibited to incorporate players, with debts for the passes of Alemán, Sosa and Soldano, with the squad a couple of months down in remuneration, Rodrigo Rey has already left and the leadership cannot pay the contract that he signed for Néstor Gorosito in October that last night he accepted the form of payment and will leave the day after tomorrow to leave his place to Chirola Romero. The enthusiasm for the return to the international level collides with the reality of an austere squad, which will be less competitive than that of 2022, betting on seed players and with possible exits (German) and players difficult to retain (Tarragona, Cardozo, Bland).
