The C8 channel was not at fault by celebrating in October on the set of “Touche pas à mon poste! The audience records for Cyril Hanouna’s show the day after an issue largely devoted to the murder of little Lola, said Arcom in a decision made public on Thursday February 2.

“The acclaimed audiences concerned the first two months of the season and not recent sequences during which tragic events were mentioned”judges the audiovisual regulator in this decision taken in December and published Thursday on its website.

The Arcom “has therefore not identified any element likely to constitute an attack on the dignity of the human person”. The regulator also made a point of specifying to AFP “that the decisions taken by the authority are addressed to the publishers”that is, to television channels.

A notice

Several sequences of “TPMP” in connection with the murder of Lola, 12, on October 14, had given rise to reports from viewers to Arcom.

In the main of these cases, the C8 channel (Canal+ group), which broadcasts “TPMP”, received a formal notice on November 18, because the host Cyril Hanouna had called for summary trials in the case of cases similar to Lola’s murder.

This measure, which targeted programs broadcast on October 18, 19 and 24, is the second level of warning from Arcom before possible sanctions.

The decision rendered on Thursday relates to a sequence from the October 19 broadcast. A party was then organized on the set to celebrate the audiences of the show. During this party, the boss of C8, Franck Appietto, had given Cyril Hanouna a gold trophy bearing the date of the day before. The issue of October 18, partly devoted to Lola, had indeed exceeded the bar of two million viewers.

Another case in progress

In addition to the procedures concerning the Lola affair, C8 and “TPMP” could also be sanctioned because of the insults of Cyril Hanouna towards the deputy LFI Louis Boyard in the program of November 10.

A week after this incident, Arcom had paved the way for a sanction procedure by transmitting this new case to an independent reporter, a member of the Council of State.

Cyril Hanouna: politics in the arena of “Baba”

Expert in lucrative clashes in audiences, Cyril Hanouna has already earned his channel numerous warnings and sanctions. Among them, the heaviest ever imposed on a channel, a fine of 3 million euros for a hoax deemed homophobic broadcast in another of its programs in May 2017.
