"Harry Potter had no black friends": Anthony Mackie criticizes the lack of racial diversity in sagas like The Lord of the Rings

One of the great bastions of UCM is currently Anthony Mackie. The actor is involved in several major projects such as Captain America: Brave New World, a film in which he will take over from Steve Rogers as the leading superhero of the Avengers. He, in turn, has also participated in Twisted Metal, the series that will adapt the events of the PlayStation franchise.

It was during an interview with Inverse where the interpreter has approached his role as a director for the first time with the film Spark, which will address the true story of Claudette Colvin, a defender of American civil rights in 1955. It is through the production that Mackie envisions an opportunity for young black actors can shine:

“Harry Potter didn’t have any fucking black friends. Frodo walked all over the universe and never met a black man. I want to see Frodo in the neighborhood, which, if I ever do Saturday Night Live, will be a skit I’ll do.”

In this case, Mackie focuses on two sagas as popular as Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. Regarding the first case, we do have Dean Thomas, member of Gryffindor, which was played by Alfred Enoch in several films in the JK Rowling franchise. In the Peter Jackson adaptations, it is true that we could not see any black actor.

Mackie is well aware that in Hollywood it’s hard not to get sucked into the maelstrom of malice that often surrounds the industry. “I’ve never met a fair producer in my life. Never. No.”, says the actor. In addition, his representative reveals that he has never been involved in any kind of trick or shady business.
