The Seres brand affiliated to China’s Xiaokang Group announced at the Brussels Motor Show the launch of its pure electric SUV model Seres 5 in Europe. The Seres 5 will be available in March through the brand’s European distribution network. The mid-size SUV offering a hybrid powertrain in China, the Seres SF5, will be launched in Europe as a pure electric vehicle and will be offered in three variants: standard 2WD, premium 4WD and flagship 4WD.

An 80 kWh LFP battery is standard, and the standard 2WD version should offer a WLTP range of 500km. Seres only specified the vehicle’s power output for the top-of-the-line version: 430 kW and 960 Nm of torque. Seres gives the 430 kW all-wheel drive version a WLTP range of 530 kilometers. A 90-kilowatt-hour semi-solid-state battery is installed here. The base version of the Seres starts at 63,900 euros, with all-wheel drive premium and flagship versions starting at 67,900 euros and 74,900 euros respectively.

With dimensions of 4,710 x 1,930 x 1,620mm and a wheelbase of 2,875mm, the Seres 5 competes in the competitive mid-range segment. The manufacturer itself aims to position the model as a “sporty premium electric SUV”. This also explains the relatively high price. However, with the aforementioned range and top model acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, EVs don’t have to hide either. The Chinese company has not provided any information about the charging capacity. All they say is that this model is “compatible with 95% of European charging systems” and has an internal plug with V2L and V2V capabilities.

Another interesting technical feature is that the chassis is mainly made of lightweight aluminum alloy. At the front, the electric SUV has a double-wishbone suspension with two ball joints and an independent suspension with trapezoidal linkage at the rear. The roofline remains swept and slopes down to the hubs, which is said to help produce a drag coefficient of 0.278 Cd. As for the exterior, Seres 5 will offer eight exterior colors and five interior colors, which can be combined as desired.

Inside the cockpit, three screens stand out: the head-up display, the central 15.6-inch control screen and the 12.3-inch LCD display. As an option, the manufacturer also offers what it calls a luxurious 85-inch Panoramic Skyline, designed to expand visibility. As for the vehicle’s connectivity and IT features, Seres talked about 18 driver assistance features, voice assistants and voice controls, among others.

To win the trust of European customers, the company highlighted that it has included five global supply chain partners, including well-known brands such as Astemo, Longhorn, Bosch, Valeo, Pirelli and BASF. The manufacturer also offers an 8-year warranty (up to 160,000 km) on the battery, motor and electronic control system, and a 4-year warranty (up to 100,000 km) on the vehicle. As a service, 24-hour emergency service and online and offline customer service are promised.
