Groundhogs come out of hibernation after six months of hibernation. In Eygliers (Hautes-Alpes), at the foot of the ramparts of Mont-Dauphin, a marked trail is accessible to all.

A marked route to respect the space of the marmots
The groundhogs were overfed last summer, receiving inappropriate food. “They peeled off, and it takes time afterwards for it to come back, it’s not very good”deplores Annette Lebreton, member of the Association for the Protection, Study and Valorization of Marmots (APEVM). The association has marked this path so that visitors stay in their place, even if it is not always easy to enforce. Walkers must resist the temptation of caresses to better respect the animal and its environment.
