The federal police caught a tax fraudster wanted by an arrest warrant on Autobahn 11 near Penkun in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The 35-year-old was arrested on Monday when he entered Poland and taken to a detention center in Neustrelitz, a spokesman for the Pasewalk federal police said on Tuesday. The man was a passenger in a vehicle that was traveling from Stettin (Szczecin) towards Berlin.

A court in the state of Brandenburg had sentenced the 35-year-old to a year and a half in prison a long time ago for major tax evasion. The man did not start this prison sentence and left for Poland. The public prosecutor’s office in Frankfurt (Oder) then issued the arrest warrant. (dpa)
