Very hot days, South Florida expects a rest of the week with high temperatures

MIAMI.– The National Weather Service (NWS) has extended the heat warning for all of Tuesday, July 9, in southern Florida counties.

The high temperature warning begins Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a heat index of 110°F expected in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe, especially in the Florida Keys.

These types of alerts are issued when unusually high temperatures and high humidity are expected. These conditions can cause an increased risk of heat illness for people who spend time outdoors.

The NWS recommends taking precautions such as drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned areas, avoiding the sun’s rays and monitoring children and the elderly.

Meteorologists warn of the danger to life of leaving children, pets and elderly people in vehicles in the sun.

Those who work outdoors are advised to schedule the most strenuous activities early in the morning or in the evening. When possible, wear light, loose clothing and drink plenty of water. The Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Health Administration recommend scheduling frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. “If someone appears to be affected by the heat, they should move to a cool, shaded location.”

According to the NWS, a heat index between 90°F and 104°F can cause cramps or exhaustion, and above this level, a person can suffer heat stroke. This happens when the body cannot control its own temperature, a condition that could result in death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not provided.
