Ajax Amsterdam has closed the coaching post construction site for the time being. As announced by the Dutch record champions, Johnny Heitinga will lead the team until the end of the season. Most recently, the 39-year-old had already stepped in as an interim solution.

Heitinga is an 87-time Dutch international. In 2016 he ended his active career and then coached numerous junior teams at Ajax. Now he is allowed to coach at a professional level for the first time.
This was preceded by the dismissal of Alfred Schreuder a week ago. Ajax then won 4-1 at Exelsior Rotterdam with Heitinga on the touchline on Sunday. The champions are currently in a disappointing fourth place in the Eredivisie. The gap to leaders Feyenoord Rotterdam is five points.
