Rally driver Craig Breen died on Thursday after driving out for practice in Croatia. In a week, the season’s fourth WC rally will be run in the country.

WRC driver Craig Breen from Ireland turned 33 years old. Breen’s stable Hyundai announces on Twitter that Breen died on Thursday in Croatia where he was loading up for the season’s fourth WC rally.

Hyundai writes that map reader James Fulton was not injured in connection with the accident.

Breen is a familiar name to rally fans. In the WC series he has finished in the top-10 in the three previous seasons and last year there were podium finishes in two different rallies. Last season’s seventh place in the summary was Breen’s best.

In this year’s WC series, Breen has only participated in one competition. In the second rally of the season, which was run in Sweden, Breen finished second behind the winner Ott Tänak.

The reigning world champion Kalle Rovanperä has reached his death sentence.
