Marco Asensio smiles again with football, and when the Mallorcan is happy playing again it means danger for the rest. Carlo Ancelotti has been giving him more minutes as the season has gone by until he is one of the most used substitutions in recent games to revolutionize the game. Last night against Chelsea, Asensio not only made it clear that he wants to stay at Real Madrid, he also went down in the history books.

Asensio came on in the 71st minute, and three minutes later the entire Santiago Bernabéu chanted his name when he put a pass into the back of the net to close the game. This goal is the Spaniard’s third in the Champions League this season, and throughout his career he already has 12 in the top European competition. The curious thing is that Asensio has scored 9 of his 12 goals in the Champions League coming off the bench, thus becoming the substitute who has scored the most goals in the history of the Champions League.

The three goals he has scored as a starter for Real Madrid in the Champions League have been at the Santiago Bernabéu. In addition, they are quite separated in time, being the first in the 2016-17 season and the last in 2022-23. Legia Warsaw was his first victim in the Champions League, in that match he accompanied Toni Kroos and James Rodríguez in the white midfield. The second goal was against Liverpool in 2020-21, he being one of the three attackers along with Benzema and Vinicius, and the third against Celtic this season.
