After a burglary in Essen-Bedinggrade on Thursday evening (April 13), the three alleged perpetrators did not get far.

The Essen police caught three suspected burglars in the Bedinggrade district on Thursday evening (April 13). A police helicopter was also used in the arrest. Those arrested are a 29-year-old and two 19-year-olds, one of whom is from Gelsenkirchen.

As police spokesman Matthias Werk announced on Friday morning, witnesses became aware of the trio and called the police emergency number. The time of the crime was just after 10 p.m. The witnesses had noticed how the three young men had broken through a fence into the garden of an apartment building on An der Schlaghecke Street.

There they are said to have pried open the balcony door on the terrace. Apparently, the homeowners were not in the home at the time of the crime.

The third suspected burglar was hiding under a trailer

Because the police patrol was on the spot quickly, the officers were able to immediately start pursuing the suspects. The three men tried to run away, but the officers grabbed their heels. The burglars threw away the bags as they fled. As it turned out later, there were burglary tools and the presumed loot in it.

Two men were caught very quickly, but the 19-year-old from Gelsenkirchen was initially able to storm. But he shouldn’t get far either. Because after just a few minutes, a police helicopter was in the Bedingrad sky and had the refugees in its sights. With the help of the thermal imaging camera, the helicopter crew finally found the 19-year-old in the garden of a family home on Bergheimer Strasse. “The suspect was hiding under a trailer,” said the police spokesman.

Two of those arrested (19 and 29 years) apparently have no permanent residence. The investigations are ongoing.
