– It’s great fun to be here and dig. The area was investigated 30 years ago and with the new excavations we can connect the finds of that time with the new ones, says Viktoria Björkhager, regional manager at the Statens historikska musær.
The excavations are carried out by them and the Östergötland county museum during two seasons. The municipality of Norrköping has plans for the location to become an activity area in the future.
Inhabited since ancient times
The first settlers settled here already during the Peasant Age, about 6,000 years ago. Although both the landscape, climate and society have changed over the millennia, the area has been more or less permanently inhabited since then.
The archaeologists expect to find and examine entire farm environments. Probably from the younger Bronze Age and older Iron Age, around 1100 BC. – 500 AD
