Like every year, the TorrentFreak site lists the most illegally downloaded series on BitTorrent. In this top 10, nine series are broadcast on the most popular streaming platforms, except the first.
For many years, Game of Thrones was the most pirated series. A reign that ended in 2019, when the series ended. In 2020, “The Mandalorian” series was the most illegally downloaded, followed in 2021 by “Wandavision”, another Disney+ series.
Top 10 most illegally watched series
The most pirated series are obviously those for which new seasons are offered. In 2022, this was neither the case for The Mandaloriannor that of Wandasion. Thereby, this is the series House of the Dragon who was most hacked in 2022. This prequel to Game Of Thrones created by George RR Martin and Ryan Condal met with enormous success on the American channel HBO, but also on torrent sites.
It thus passes in front of another event series of 2022: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Broadcast on Amazon Prime Video, this first season which takes place three thousand years before the events told in The Hobbit was a huge success last year. The Boys, another Amazon Prime series has been massively hacked. follow Moon Knight, Halo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Boba Fett Book, Stranger Things, She-Hulk: Lawyer and Andor.
TorrentFreak clarifies that this list is only based on series that aired in 2022. The ranking is then established based on sample data from multiple sources like I know , as well as statistics reported by public BitTorrent trackers. BitTorrent traffic obviously represents only a part of downloads via torrents. It also does not take into account series watched illegally in streaming, the figures of which are very difficult to obtain.
The fact that the most pirated series are those found on Disney+, Netflix and Amazon Prime also shows the fragmentation of the offer. Indeed, a user wanting to watch the most popular series must subscribe to three, four or even five different services. An approach that few consumers take and which explains the enormous success of torrents and pirate IPTV.
There are many streaming sites to watch movies and series legally. However, the content offer remains much less attractive than that of the streaming giants who spend millions each year to offer blockbusters to their subscribers.
