During the spring, Eon will connect the district cooling networks in Västra Hamnen and Nyhamnen. Work is currently underway on the section between Hjälmarkajen and Skeppsbron.

– District cooling is something that will come in the future. A so-called comfort cooling that is needed in shops and homes. Which is needed to deal with warmer summers ahead, says Peter Hjalmar, regional manager of Eon Sweden.

Right now they have drilled 23 meters under the harbor entrance to Malmö. Footpaths and parts of the road are closed.

– The entire length of the pipe consists of about 20 12 meter lengths which are welded together and together form a 250 meter long pipe, says Ingrid Redin, project manager Eon.

Maneuvering a gigantic pipe of just 250 meters in densely populated areas has had its challenges. Finally, the tube was filled with air and let it float in the harbor basin.

– We hope to have everything ready by May, says Peter Hjalmar.
