Hi-Fi Rush creator John Johanas has in an interview with IGN revealed that the game that took the world by storm last week was also hugely popular at Bethesda even before that. The decision to release the title without a major marketing campaign was actually largely based on its internal success.

Also, since Tango Gameworks is primarily known as a horror developer, it felt more logical to just launch it without fanfare. Game Pass was also a big factor, as it allowed players to give the title a try without having to pay for something that many surely thought looked a bit fishy:

“There’s this weird sort of viral positivity to this just playing this game. And Game Pass just felt like an excellent opportunity to let something…lose that skepticism immediately by just playing it and people just talking about it.”

We also loved Hi-Fi Rush (check out our review) and the stealth premiere did incredibly well, judging by sales.
