Hialeah receives more than 24,000 Section 8 applications in 48 hours

MIAMI.- The Director of the Hialeah Housing Authority (HHA), Julio Ponce, stated at the regular Council meeting that in less than 48 hours since the opening of Section 8, the City received more than 24,000 applications to participate in the draw for the 1,000 vouchers for the housing rental assistance program, available until next Monday.

“The number of requests will continue to increase in the coming days, which demonstrates the voracious need that exists in the community,” said Ponce in the framework of the discussion of the resolution approved by the Council on Tuesday, April 23, in which it was transferred to HHA to manage the city’s affordable housing buildings.

Due to the high volume of requests, the JF Kennedy Library, located at 190 W 49 Street, Hialeah, will be open on Wednesday and Thursday, April 24 and 25, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, to help fill the requests. requests from those people who do not have access to the internet, explained the president of the Council, Jesús Tundidor.

In addition, HHA will be receiving applications online until April 29 at 11:59 p.m., through its website https://hialeahhousing.housingmanager.com.

To be eligible to participate in the drawing, applicants must be citizens or legal residents, and their income must not exceed 50 percent of the area median income. A single person may not have annual income greater than $39,750; two people, $45,400; a family unit of three people, $51,050; and four people, $56,750.

All those who complete their application within the established deadline will participate in the drawing, regardless of the day on which they submitted the request.

To avoid being disqualified, they must complete a single application per person and per family unit. “All duplicate applications will be rejected,” warned Ponce. The same fate will befall those who make false statements about their income.
