Britain’s anti-terrorist police have accused an active member of their country’s armed forces of violating secrecy laws. As Scotland Yard announced on Saturday, the 36-year-old was arrested on Tuesday.

Allegations under the Official Secrets Act of 1989 were made on Friday. The relevant paragraphs are directed, among other things, against the disclosure of defense information.

The man is accused of sharing highly confidential military information, the PA news agency reported after a court hearing on Saturday. According to the responsible prosecutor, a data leak in this regard would have posed an immediate threat to the lives of British citizens abroad.

The 36-year-old was stationed abroad until April 17 and is suspected of having made “damaging disclosure of defense-related information” that was in his possession because of his position. It is said to be a ten-page document that he is said to have shared with a civilian person, among others. He is said to have taken photos of the document and sent them via social media.

The United States is in the process of processing one of the largest intelligence data leaks in its history. These are dozens of confidential documents on Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine that have been circulating on the Internet for weeks. A 21-year-old military worker is said to be responsible for the leak. (dpa)
