Johan Edvardsson and Bengt Blom from the Sweden Democrats in Jönköping have submitted a motion to investigate the possibilities for small-scale nuclear power in the municipality. In the motion they write:
“An establishment of small modular reactors (SMR) in our municipality would give us a number of unique advantages”.
Member of Parliament Angelica Lundberg (SD) believes that the proposal will be received positively in the council.
– We believe that this issue is important for most parties. It is important with the energy supply of the future and it is good that Jönköping is at the forefront of the development we want, she says.
Up in more municipalities
According to the motion, three other municipalities in the country have raised the issue politically; Norrköping, Karlskoga and Uppsala.
This is another very long-term solution, how do you view the criticism of the lack of measures that can make a difference here and now?
– It is regrettable that those who ruled the country before us have not taken this seriously. Unfortunately, there are no other measures for energy production, which makes it even more important that we start the issue now.
In January, the government presented a proposal that will enable new nuclear power reactors to be built in more locations in the country. See more in the clip below:
