In an interview with the sports program “beIN Center”, the international left side Faouzi Ghoulam talks about his choice of SCO Angers. He talks about the Algerian team as well as our country’s candidacy to host CAN-2025.

Victim of repeated injuries, Faouzi Ghoulam had left SSC Naples at the end of the past season after the end of his contract. After six months of unemployment, he found a freelance during the last winter transfer window. Indeed, he returned to the French Ligue 1 to bounce back by opting for SCO Angers.

The player reconsiders his choice to sign at the Angevin club. “During the last seasons with Napoli, I had not been spared the curse of injuries. But fate willed it that way. I believe in God and I accept the fate he has reserved for me. Last summer, I had touches with several clubs, of course, but I had not received an offer from one that meets my sporting ambitions. Also, I had taken all my time to reconnect with the official competition. I wanted to take my time on the choice of life in relation to my family and the choice of career, because at 32 you no longer have the same expectations as those you might have at 20”. He will say straight away.

He also displays his ambitions with his new team. “I will try to chain the matches and quickly find my form. After several months of stopping, it is not easy (…) I also have the ambition to contribute to the maintenance of Angers in Ligue 1”. he indicated.

Ghoulam back in selection?

At 32 and still evolving in the high level, Faouzi Ghoulam can claim to return to the selection. But, first, to continue to chain the matches with Angers to find its best level.

Asked by Vanessa Le Moigne if the selection is still in a corner of the head, the player has not closed the door for a return to the Greens. “At the moment, the most important thing for me is to find my form and my best level. Afterwards, we will see what fate has in store for us”. He replied with a big smile.

What did Ghoulam say about Algeria’s candidacy for CAN-2025?

The former left side of the Fennecs was also questioned about Algeria’s candidacy to host CAN-2025. He says he is optimistic that the 35th edition of the African competition will take place in our country.

“I think Algeria showed during the last CHAN that it is capable of hosting any competition. Frankly, the infrastructure in the country has evolved a lot, it’s really nice. And with the great progress of the national team, I think Algeria deserves to host CAN-2025. Personally, I hope so”. He concluded.
