Although it was a prop, Amir Wilson admitted he had to use plastic knives for safety. “The knife can hurt you, obviously. It has a sharp edge. But the sides are bluntdid he declare. Why His Dark Materials will not have a season 4

Adapted from the books of British novelist Philip Pullman – the trilogy consisting of volumes The Northern Kingdoms (published in 1995), The Tower of Angels (1997) and The Amber Mirror (2000) – will end at the end of this third season. However, producers Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch explained to the Première site that this third salvo had almost been split into two parts: “At one point, we really considered doing season 3 in two parts (…) This book clearly had the potential to be expanded over two seasons!”. However, they preferred to stick to a final season 3. “Certainly, we would have had time to focus more broadly on the journey of Mary Malone. But that would only have been one or two more episodes… Then we would have had to embroider and that would have spoiled the rhythm. So in the end, 8 episodes was the right number to end the saga”they said.

A particularly moving finale

Amir Wilson also teased the grand finale of the series, revealing that he had been “moving” to film: “The last episode is heavy. It’s emotional. I think there will be a lot of tears and stuff. There certainly were some from me and Dafne (Dafne Keeneditor’s note) when we filmed it”did he declare. “I think it’s a very, very nice episode. And I think people are going to like it. It had to feel like paradise. We went to southern Spain, Andalucia, and we filmed in these amazing places”he added.
